Parks Highway Area Projects : South Mack Drive Connection : BACKGROUND

The City of Wasilla and the Knik-Goose Bay area south of Wasilla grew rapidly over the past decade. Although growth has slowed, the trend is expected to continue as large tracts of land are converted into residential and commercial subdivisions. Currently, Knik-Goose Bay (KGB) Road and South Vine Road provide the most direct routes for residents traveling between the Knik-Fairview area and Wasilla, and to points north.

Extending South Mack Drive as a major collector road from the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center to KGB Road is recommended in the City of Wasilla Transportation Plan, City of Wasilla Official Streets & Highways Plan FY 2005-2025, and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough’s 2007 Long-Range Transportation Plan.
